Besides this, modular helmets usually are heavier than full-face helmets due to their flip-up mechanism. For modular helmets you’re usually looking at 1400 up to 2000 grams. Healmets that have additional features such as an internal sunvisor will also add to the weight. Open-face helmets tend to be the lightest helmet category. Quality brands will typically use more expensive material and be lighter.
Define a riding style: That could be riding in intense environments like circuits of off-road tracks. Or do you prefer touring trips along scenic routes? Whichever it is, every riding style has its category of products that will specifically cater to specific preferences.Â
Understanding what makes a good helmet in that specific category / riding style. Having a basic understanding of helmet anatomy and the factors that play a role in the best riding experience will give you a better ability to choose the right one for you. Think of material, weight, noise isolation, ventilation, comfort, features, bang for the buck and more.
Sizing: A motorcycle helmet can only shield your head from impact injuries if the sizing is correct, which can be tricky. Most helmets will have a size chart that tells you exactly what size is optimal for the circumference of your head. But don’t worry, we’ve done a full video guide on how to choose the right motorcycle helmet size to make sure you get it right from the go.
Alternative:
You can put stickers on your motorcycle helmets as it won’t compromise its ability to protect your head from impact. Although, one should consider the following factors while putting on helmet stickers:
Avoid placing them over ventilation channels as it will block airflow throughout the helmet and can warm the inside.Â
Stickers on your helmet might void your warranty agreement, as modifications might not be allowed depending on the manufacturer’s instructions.Â
Be careful with putting anything on your visor as it will significantly reduce your field of view. This could lead to more risk on the road.
Disclaimer: this is in no form an advice to put stickers on your helmet. Make sure to check your helmet instruction manual and make sure to contact the helmet manufacturer for information with regard to this subject.Â
Grab a bucket and fill it with warm water and mild soap.
Start by removing the helmet’s inner liner. Most helmet manuals will explain exactly how to do this.
Once every piece of the padding is out, wash them all in water and soap.
Afterward, it’s essential to let each piece dry on its own. Never use anything like a hairdryer or the sun.
Clean the outer shell with a microfiber cloth and the same warm water and soap mixture. Dirt and insects will often engrave into the shell. Place a microfiber cloth over the outer shell and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. This way, scrubbing the dirt off won’t leave any scratches on your helmet. Our channel has a video detailing every step to cleaning your helmet out!
