The Shuberth C4 Pro Modular Helmet will offer the best touring quality and comfort to those who are looking for it. With velvet like interiors to a fully integrated communication system right out of the box, Schuberth have have created one of the best premium modular motorcycle helmets available.
Though Schuberth initially suffered teething troubles with the Schuberth C4, such as issues with their own Schuberth brand anti-fog lens, the C4 Pro has solved all of these. Schuberth have gone back to Pinlock anti-fog lenses and the fitment and ventilation issues have also been resolved to create this superb helmet meant to complement the Schuberth C3 Pro.
For competition, the Schuberth C4Pro is faced with its two long-time rivals: the Shoei Neotec 2 and the AGV Sportmodular. Though AGV are new to the modular helmet market, the AGV Sport Modular has performed well and the Shoei Neotec 2 is also one of the best modular helmets available.
From the middle range of the market, the Schuberth also faces competition from the Shark Evo-GT, HJC RPHA 90, Nolan N100 5 Plus, Klim TK1200, Scorpion Exo-Tech . Though these helmets offer very good alternatives, they still won’t reach the same high level as Schuberth or Shoei.
Difference: Schuberth C4 Pro vs. C4
Though only three letters separate the Schuberth C4 Basic and the Schuberth C4 Pro, there are substantial differences between the two helmets. The main area where Schuberth focused their changes was on the interior. The changed the original C4’s liner to a more velvet-like texture as well as improving its noise reducing capabilities for the C4 Pro. Additionally, Schuberth have moved the already integrated microphone from the forehead of the C4 to the cheek of the Schuberth C 4 Pro to improve its performance.
The last two main changes included the strengthening of the chin and top vents of the Schuberth C4 Pro after receiving complaints about the panels coming loose on the Schuberth C4. As a final added bonus, Schuberth also made the welcome change of dropping the price of the Schuberth C4 Pro by an additional 50 Euros.
Shell Material
The outer shell of the Schuberth C4 Pro is made through Schuberth’s Direct Fiber Processing (DFP) method. This means that the helmet is formed by extruding an endless spool of glass fiber into a helmet form at very high pressure. This ensures only the required amount of material is used and that there is no excess or wasted material.
Though fiberglass is lightweight and strong, if you are also searching for an even lighter modular helmet, then Schuberth also produce this helmet with a carbon fiber shell, named the Schuberth C4 Pro Carbon.
Regardless of the outer helmet shell material, the Schuberth C4 Pro is produced in 3 shell sizes to ensure a proper and proportionate fit. For head fit, the Schuberth C4 Pro will fit the same as the Schuberth C3 Pro with a round to intermediate oval head fit. The EPS liner is also multi-density to allow it to perform better in a variety of different impacts.
Ventilation
Though the Schuberth C Four Pro only has two main vents, we found that it was one of the best ventilating modular helmets when we took it out on our Road Test. In the chin, there is one adjustable vent while the forehead has another large adjustable air intake.
The low quantity of vents also helps substantially in reducing the noise level in the helmet by allowing less wind noise to leak into the helmet. Additionally, thanks to the large size and simple mechanisms of the two air inlets, they are very glove friendly.
Visor
As with any touring focused modular helmet, the Schuberth C4 Pro’s visor offers its rider a wide field of view to take in all the sights of the road. The visor is anti-scratch treated and is prepared for an Pinlock anti-fog insert, which is also in the box. This is one of the main changes from the Schuberth C4, which used a Schuberth brand anti-fog lens.
For additional comfort, the Schuberth C4 Pro also includes a drop-down sunshade to reduce glare from the sun while riding. The mechanism uses a slide on the lip of the helmet, and it is large enough to offer a good ease of use for a gloved hand.
Lining
The comfort liner in the is among one of the most comfortable liners in a currently available motorcycle helmet. The liner is fully removable, washable, and it is moisture wicking so that your ride will remain nice and dry. The thick, luxurious material not only feels and looks good, but it also helps with noise reduction within the helmet. From the chin strap to the cheek pads, the interior is enough to make anyone comfortable.
Though modular helmets are generally louder than full face helmets, due to wind noise leaking into the helmet through openings in the chin bar, the C4 Pro is one of the quietest helmets available.
The C4 Pro owes its phenomenal noise isolation to Schuberth’s thorough wind tunnel testing of the helmet. As a result, the Schuberth C4 Pro features an aerodynamic profile that is focused on noise reduction. This is a very important feature for touring helmets since sustained exposure to high levels of noise can have health and safety impacts as well as causing fatigue over time.
Lastly, if you prefer to use a communication system on your rides then Schuberth have made things incredibly easy with the pre-installed Sena SC1 Communication System. Schuberth have directly integrated the system into the helmet so that only the battery and module need to be installed. The speakers and microphone are already included in the helmet right out of the box.
The system includes all the attributes included with Sena’s other systems including Sena’s Advanced Noise Control, voice commands, FM Radio, group intercom, and more. You can see how easy it is to install the SC1 Communication System in our SC1 Advanced Installation Video.
Summary
The Schuberth C4 Pro delivers a fully functional helmet right out of the box with its integrated communication system, wide field of vision, quality liner, and anti-fog Pinlock lens. Once out on the road, the time Schuberth have spent working on improving the helmet will also become clear in the helmet’s effective noise isolation and ventilation.
